My Story:
I used to put skim milk on my fruity pebbles so they would be healthier.
As a kid, I owned every single teenie beanie baby because i ate McDonald’s happy meals that often.
As I grew up, I thought fried chicken salads and sun chips were health food options.
I grew up in the suburbs of all suburbs. I’ve lived in Johnson County, KS and Loudoun County, VA (if you know, YOU KNOW) Rarely spending any time outside, no gardening, no animals, and a lot of Saved By The Bell and TGI Friday night line ups.
As a teen, I would babysit, but I wasn’t familiar with babies. I didn’t spend time around them and I really didn’t know how to change their diapers or how to hold them or soothe them or care for them.
But then –
A pivotal moment happened.
I was pregnant with my first child. A daughter, Abigail. I hadn’t asked many questions and I was on the road to a traditional, epidural fueled hospital birth- when around 27 weeks into my pregnancy, I was at a friends wedding shower.
And the conversation there was different than anything I had ever heard before. (A few of the women there were INSANE enough to have had home births- what?!) They discussed the risks of the highly praised epidural, of inductions, and more. Things that I had never thought to question, or wonder about. And so, *dip* went my toe into some research about natural childbirth (holla Ina May!!!!) and that simple conversation led me to a 12 year journey that is still unfolding every single day.
From suburbia to acreage. From meds to oils. From hospital to home. From processed to fresh. From blind trust to wide eyed, deeply passionate research.
It didn’t happen overnight, and I’m still learning more every day- but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come, for my babies. And I’m passionate about how far I am still willing to go.
If you have ever wanted to take simple steps to healthier living, to return to home, to the outdoors, to a simpler time, routine, and system- I’m here to share what I’ve learned along the way, what I’m still learning, and what I still plan to achieve (dairy cow, you’ll be mine).
I’m so glad that you’re here. I hope this blog inspires you, encourages you, and helps you realize that if I can make my house a healthier home- truly, anyone can.
I’m rooting for you!
