Twenty Two

So. Taylor Swift has a new single out right now. It’s called “Twenty Two”. Now, I have some mad love in my heart for the T.Swift. I’ll admit it. You will never see me changing the station when one of her songs comes on. But, her new song just strikes me as so funny.

22

Hmm. The lyrics stand in such stark contrast to what I was doing the year that I turned 22.

I thought it’d be fun to show you exactly what I’m talking about.
I can guarantee you, T.Swift never thought about her song being interpreted this way.
“It feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters
And make fun of our exes, uh uh uh uh”
{Clearly, I am NOT dressed like a hipster NOR do I have any exes. But, I thought I should include what I looked like on my 22nd birthday}
“It feels like a perfect night for breakfast at midnight”
 “To fall in love with strangers”
 “Yeahhh, we’re happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time
It’s miserable and magical oh yeah”
{The only thing miserable about this picture was- well, ya know. Stitches}
“Tonight’s the night when we forget about the deadlines, it’s time uh uh”
 “I don’t know about you but I’m feeling 22
Everything will be alright if you keep me next to you”

“You don’t know about me, but I bet you want to.
Everything will be alright if we just keep dancing like we’re 22, 22″

“It seems like one of those nights

This place is too crowded-  too many cool kids”

{We’re at the Vera Bradley Outlet Sale- ha!}
“It seems like one of those nights
We ditch the whole scene and end up dreaming instead of sleeping

“Yeahhhh, we’re happy, free, confused, and lonely in the best way

It’s miserable and magical oh yeah”

“Tonight’s the night when we forget about the heartbreaks, it’s time uh uh”

“I don’t know about you but I’m feeling 22
Everything will be alright if you keep me next to you”

“You don’t know about me but I bet you want to
Everything will be alright if we just keep dancing like we’re 22, 22″

“It feels like one of those nights
We ditch the whole scene
It feels like one of those nights
We won’t be sleeping

“It feels like one of those nights

You look like bad news

 “I gotta have you, I gotta have you”

I came into my 22nd year 9 months pregnant with my first daughter. I delivered her and entered into the role of Mama in my 22nd year. I became a new person. I grew and shaped into someone entirely different. My 22nd year was life changing. Totally new and unknown. Completely rewarding and unforgettable.
It makes a song about dressing like hipsters and making fun of exes seem pretty small in comparison, doesn’t it?

    1. Hah! Thank you! Yes, she does. I'm still shocked she has those bright blue Daddy eyes. I honestly don't know a single family member on either side of my family that has blue eyes- some distant member passed along a recessive blue gene that I was not expecting!

  1. Love this song and now whenever I hear it, it'll remind me of this post. Great post, I'm 29 and I'm considered the "young mom" in my group of mom friends. Now I feel so old compared to you, ha!
