18 month update!

Abigail turned 18 months on Cinco De Mayo, but I wanted to wait until after her doctor’s appointment this morning to be able to update with official stats.

Length 32inches
Weight 24lbs 4oz

She did so much better at her appointment this time than at her 15 month appt. Last time she seriously screamed at the top of her lungs the entire time. This time, she only cried when the nurse or doctor touched her and when she got her shot(1 shot-Hep A- whew!) Otherwise, she waited and played nicely in the waiting room, was patient and happy when I got her undressed and dressed again, and danced around the room in a diaper eating goldfish while we waited for the doctor to come talk to us. Everything was uneventful. I didn’t have any questions and Dr. Chilton was happy with her progress. No well baby check until 2 years, only one shot at that appointment, and then we are done with shots until kindergarten. Hooray!

Things that have changed since 17 month update:

She has recently had a verbal explosion. We’re hovering somewhere around 30 words now. Her new words include: Duck, choo choo, hat, cold, yes, no, hi, bye, more, map, backpack, and baa.

When she signs she now also says the word that goes with it which is really cool to see.

Today at her appointment she said her first sentence. “No more” Lol!

When she watches Dora she tries really hard to say Map and Backpack when they tell her to. It is SO cute. Map sounds pretty spot on, backpack is mostly just the ba sound but I know that is what she is trying to say!

She is no longer afraid of swings! I’m not sure what changed but she asks for it and enjoys swinging now. Such a silly girl.

At bedtime she wants to pick out her own books now. She points to the one she wants to read and says yes when we ask her if we’ve gotten the right one.

She still loves being outside. She has started going down the big slides all by herself! What a big girl! We go on walks almost daily(sometimes twice) and she loves blowing bubbles, using chalk, and smelling flowers.

She helps me check the mail. She opens the door, closes it, and puts up the flag!

When we run errands, say, to Walmart, she insists on holding one item the entire time. I mean ENTIRE time. She doesn’t want to give it up to pay for it and usually ends up holding it the whole way home. Last week, it was entire bag of apples. This week it was a box of teddy grahams.

She holds your hand when we pray before a meal. It’s one of the sweetest moments in our whole day(3 times a day)

She leaves the house with me on her own instead of having me carry her. I’ll open the door and she’ll walk down the stairs(with the help of my hands) and walk to her door of the car to wait to go somewhere.

Lots of changes and big girl things we are doing these days. I miss my tiny baby, but I love how much fun Abigail is right now. I don’t get naptime snuggles anymore, but I get big bear hugs and slobbery kisses that I love just as much. I love how we can communicate with each other and I love having a buddy to go everywhere with me. I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to spend almost every waking minute with her. Being able to watch her change and grow has been the biggest blessing of my life. I love that little girl so much!

LOVE HER!
My sweet girl in her pile of books
I know this picture is blurry but I love it. I see this face countless times every day. She gets so excited to bring her books to me so we can read together. I love it!

This week we are flying to Virginia for Uncle Logan’s graduation. It will be Abigail’s first airplane ride outside of the womb….should be interesting!
