Newborn Baby Essentials
I can’t believe that Finn is nearly 6 months old and completely out of the newborn baby phase! Be sure to check out the bottom of this post for some of my must have, favorite newborn baby essentials!
It seems like you wake up one morning and they’re suddenly this interactive baby who is aware of the world around them and not a snuggly blob of a teeny baby anymore.
So, before I forget everything, I thought I would share some of my favorite newborn baby essentials from this time around!
Some of these are tried and true(meaning, I used them with Abigail and Mabel too!) and some are brand new newborn baby essentials that I tried for the first time with Finn and totally loved!

Sleep:
Raise your hand if you love adorable baby pajamas as much as I doooo? It’s essentially all my babies live in for the first six months. Baby clothes sure are cute, but man, are the mostly super inconvenient. With Mabel I pretty much only exclusively used pajamas with zippers, but with Finn I have really, really loved button pajamas instead. (If you’re in the market for zipper pajamas, these are some of my favorites) The thing I love about Loved Baby pajamas is that they are SO soft and comfortable and they come in SO many basic, simple color options. They are so sweet and I highly recommend them for every single baby- boy or girl!
The swaddle of all swaddles! I discovered this a few weeks after Finn’s arrival and I wish I had had it from day ONE! So easy to use and he LOVES it. He doesn’t use any other swaddle now(they also make a swaddle for bigger babies once they are ready to transition out!). It zips up or down, keeps them snug and secure, and I honestly can’t rave about this swaddle enough!
The greatest new baby discovery for sleep!!! We put this between the two of us in our bed during those early newborn days and we got WAY more sleep in the newborn days than we have EVER gotten. (We had to take a brief break from the Snuggle Me due to reflux- but as soon as he outgrew that, back he went!) It made moving Finn to his own crib in his own room completely seamless. It was amazing. Finn LOVED sleeping in his Snuggle Me Organic!
One of my all time favorite baby items. Mabel slept in her RNP until she was 7 months old. Finn slept in it beside my bed until he outgrew his minor reflux issues- but it was a total life saver. And also so easy to carry around the house to keep baby close by, especially in those early days before they can play or interact much.
All three of my babies have been paci babies and these are SO great! They come in so many fun colors and designs AND they glow in the dark. Game. Changer.
One can never have too many blankets around the house with a new baby! Perfect for covering up, laying on the ground, loosely swaddling, tightly swaddling…you name it, these blankets can do it!
Diapers:
Our favorite diapers during the ten million diaper changes of the early days. High quality and a great price point!
My favorite diaper cream! Takes care of any signs of diaper rash, almost immediately!
Gathre Changing Pad
I loved my Gathre changing pad so much that I ordered another! I have one in my diaper bag to travel with and I keep one on his actual changing table for easy cleaning and changing. It wipes off so easily and there are so many cute colors and styles to choose from!
Feeding:
Boppy Pillow (and cute covers!)
I know not everyone is a fan of the boppy but I AM! I have used the same pillow with all three babies and it is a life saver for me. I also love using it for tummy time and propping baby up beside me when they’re awake. Also, cute covers make them fun for baby pictures too 🙂
Abigail and Finn have been my big spit up babies- we go through burp rags like it’s their job. Cute ones like these make cleaning up something so gross a lot more fun.
I got this cover before Finn was born and it has been amazing! I’ve gotten so many compliments on it and I never leave the house without it. I used it to keep his car seat covered at all times (keeping out the cold AND the germs!) and used it as a nursing cover. I prefer this style because it wraps completely around me. (Gotta keep that muffin top concealed too, lol)
Gear:
Solly Baby Wrap
My all time favorite baby carrier. I have three. I love them so much! I love baby wearing and I love this wrap!
This is the travel system we have used this time around and it has been FANTASTIC. The car seat is lighter than previous seats we’ve used and it is super, super easy to click in and out of the stroller frame. Plus, it can face forward and backward- which I love AND the bassinet feature is amazing! I’ve been using it recently too, perfect for stroller naps!
I love the Glow in the dark Pacifiers. I really love the Halo bassinet. My daughter is still sleeping in it at 5 months. We plan on moving her to her crib soon.

We have a Gathre highchair mat for under R’s chair since she was born, and we have loved it so very much that I bought a second one for under J’s highchair. We have carpet where we eat (ugh) so the mats have been a lifesaver. I saw those Loved to Dream swaddles and thought about trying them out with J, but we actually never swaddled him or R! I don’t know why except that we never felt like it! haha
Wow, I love this picture of you, your husband and cute baby boy. It’s so funny how such a little person requires so much. So fabulous
Thank you so much for your tips. It was very helpful. I am currently 38 weeks and I’m a first time mom and have very limited experience if any with children. I was wanting to find a blog that could help me out on what exactly my baby will need and then you upload this one which is EXACTLY what I need it. Thank you so much and blessing to your family.
Hey Martha! Thanks for commenting!
You are so very welcome 🙂 If you have any questions, I’d be happy to help if I can! Best of luck welcoming your new little one into the world ANY DAY!
