My First Solo Week With THREE!

Can I get one massive TGIF?! I did it(almost….)! I’ve made it through my very first solo week as a stay at home mama to THREE littles!

Initially I was going to just share a post about my first DAY but since my blogging schedule is all out of whack due to constantly holding/feeding a newborn, I’m going to lump all of the pictures from this week into this post and share about my first WEEK instead 😉

We didn’t leave the house until Thursday, so there isn’t a whole lot to report on. Mostly we’ve been wearing comfy clothes, breastfeeding, watching tv, breastfeeding, taking naps, breastfeeding, doing school with Abigail, breastfeeding, watching movies, breastfeeding, and counting down the minutes until Daddy gets home. (and then breastfeeding some more)

Both girls are super helpful with Finn, but Abigail wins the award for Mom’s best assistant for sure. She can get diapers(for either kid), get her own snacks or drinks, hold Finn if I need to pee, plays with Mabel, and doesn’t complain about any of it. Every Mom with a newborn needs an almost 7 year old!

We’ve also managed to do school every day this week- which is awesome! My Mom did school with Abigail while she was here, so it’s been kind of nice to get back into the swing of Mom being the teacher. Grammy was a fantastic substitute, but we’re both glad to be back to a bit of our regular routine now!

And not only are they helpful, but they’re both completely taken with him. Asking to hold him multiple times a day and telling him how sweet he is and how much they love him. The little guy should never be short on confidence or encouragement in this house.

This picture is SO funny to me because Mabel used to do this to me ALLL the time when she was a baby.

Afternoons are for a nap for Mabel and quiet time for Abigail. Which means I get to snuggle this little guy all by myself for a bit!

But it never lasts quite long enough before the sissies are back 😉

We’ve been logging lots of couch time- the girls are super into The Iron Giant and Mickey’s House of Villains right now. And I’ve made it all the way through the Great British Baking Show.

This picture is so funny. Abigail needed to assist Mabel in looking at the camera. Fortunately we all laughed over it instead of it turning into a fight- thank goodness 😉

On Thursday we ventured out of the house for the first time…..for three different things!

First, we met up with some friends at a local corn maze. But not before I snapped a few pictures of my three on our newly decorated front porch! Our mums and pumpkins from our trip to the patch last weekend look great! Now I just need to update my front door wreath and my rugs 🙂

The girls went through the maze with our friends while I sat at a picnic table and nursed Finn. Then they roasted marshmallows, played in a corn crib, and took multiple train/tractor rides.

The weather was absolutely perfect out! When we got there it was closing in on 60 degrees and breezy. A perfect fall day! (We won’t talk about how it got up to 80 later in the day though)

They said that every single time they got to a fork in the maze, Mabel would put her hands out like this and say “which way??” SO CUTE!

Other than eating while we were there, this little guy slept the entire time!

The rest of our Thursday involved dance classes for both girls, a soccer game, and a soccer team pizza party afterwards.

We got home around 8:30 and I told Jim that the day was so busy I was feeling overwhelmed and emotional about it- lol! So I took a shower and had a margarita and think I’ll just hunker down and not leave my house until Sunday morning for church. Ha!

Anyway, a lot of people asked me if I was “ready” or “nervous” about my Mom leaving and flying solo with the kids. And I really wasn’t. I was more sad that my days of getting to just sit and hold and snuggle Finn were ending but I felt more than confident to be able to take care of my kids…..

the one caveat to that is, as long as we don’t have to leave the house or go anywhere. The thought of getting the four of us ready to go anywhere puts me into a cold sweat, so for the next few months or so, something had better be REALLY good to get us out of the house for it.

Otherwise, I think we’ll just be here. In our pajamas, watching tv, and doing school. (and breastfeeding)

And I like that.

One week- DONE!

  1. Which way? Hilarious! M is so cute. I think having a 7-yr-old to help would have been fantastic. It’s better now that R has adjusted to J, but at first I couldn’t leave her alone with him for even one second or she would get too rough, so it was really hard for me being by myself with the two of them. It’s still a lot, but it gets easier every day! Glad Mr Finn has two big sisters to love on him so well 🙂

  2. So SWEET. Oh my goodness. All of it. 🙂 He looks so teeny tiny in that little baby seat…and his features are so cute. Enjoy those moments. <3

  3. So many sweet pictures! I really love those last pictures of your three on your front porch. Abigail looks like such a pro holding Finn and Mabel’s hair is looking so cute. What great big sisters! Glad you made it through your first week. Hope you have a nice weekend!

  4. Feeding that baby all day every day is right! Looks like you guys had a perfectly relaxing week. Yay for homeschool. Cause leaving the house every day at 7:30 with three kids is not my jam!

  5. Yay for making it through your first week with the 3 kiddos! You are a rockstar, Momma! Finn is so adorable! Aren’t older siblings the best? My 8 year old was (and still is) a huge help when my 2 and 1 year olds were born. Have a great weekend!

  6. I had no doubt you would do great! Nothing wrong with being homebodies, you stay away from germs that way haha.

  7. Yes, my oldest was 7 when our most recently baby was born and it has been magnificent! I have realized I think she sees him as someone she can take care of rather than someone to play with one day. Watching her care for her littlest brother is a sweet thing to witness!
Amen to children who need help to look at the camera! It made for a cute picture and I’m glad there wasn’t any arguments when it was all done.
I am happy you’re getting time to enjoy Finn and are making an effort to get lots of time at home together! My youngest is 6 months old and my mother commented that I’m now getting brave about taking them all to run errands with me…it is an adjustment!

  8. Those sisters are such a big help! And Mabel looks so grown all of a sudden! Yay for getting out of the house for some fall fun! I love the pictures of the three of them on the porch! Abigail looks so much like you.
