Guns & Wind Tunnels. Also Known As, Our Weekend.
I’m a bit slow on the uptake this morning. I had fully intended to have this post written up last night and ready to go first thing today, but we have been gone all weekend AND Jim and I have been making our way through How I Met Your Mother. While the two may seem entirely unrelated, it’s actually what contributed to my tardiness. After an entire weekend without it we needed{NEEDED} to get a few episodes in last night.
So, apparently 10 year old tv shows on Netflix trump putting together a timely post over here.
Anyway.
Our weekend.
We left Friday after Jim got off work to head to Ponca City, Oklahoma. Jim has some family that lives there and it’s a pretty ideal central location for all of the aunts, uncles, and cousins to meet together.
I mean how beautiful is that place? It was sunny and warm and so windy, but so picturesque. Whenever I am somewhere like that my soul feels so refreshed and happy, it confirms to me what I already know, that I am a Midwest girl through and through and through and there is nothing like wide open spaces to make me feel perfectly content.
So, while I managed to not get a single photo of us with family, Jim and I were sure to document how we spent our Saturday afternoon. Bang bang, y’all.
In all seriousness though, I was super proud of myself. I haven’t been shooting guns for very long and this time last year when we went shooting I was hardly able to hit a target, let alone a moving one{clays}. But this year, I hit the clay pigeons every time it was my turn to go AND I completely shot up the center of my target with our handgun.
Not only was I so proud of my improvement but I am able to breathe easier knowing that I can proficiently use the gun that Jim leaves at home for me.
We got home around midnight on Saturday so that we could be back at our place for church Sunday morning. We had a super blessed morning. Filled with cards, flowers, lattes, church, and pictures from inside a wind tunnel.
Honestly. Look at our hair in these pictures! Blowing around like crazy. Couple that with bright sunlight and well, the Mommy/Abigail photos were pretty slim pickins this year.
On my very first Mother’s Day when I was 14 weeks pregnant, my parents bought us a lilac bush and some gerbera daisies to plant and celebrate. Both plants are still growing, spreading, and absolutely flourishing in our front yard! Abigail and I have taken a picture in front of the lilac every year and it’s always so amazing to look back and see how much we have both changed from each May!
That being said, as we continue our house search, there is a very real possibility that this will be our last Mother’s Day picture in front of our sweet lilac bush. Which is a sad thought to me! I suppose we’ll just have to start up a new Mother’s Day tradition at that point.
Or maybe we’ll just show up and take our picture once a year in front of a strangers house :p
This picture is terrible but made me laugh out loud because #twinning
After church we came home and ate frozen pizza with salad for lunch and then took monster naps in our pajamas. Which we didn’t take off for the rest of the day.
Abigail said, “Do you wanna take a picture of mah buns?” This kid!!
 Puttin out the vibe.
I absolutely love the idea of planting something when you find out your pregnant! How wonderful that you get to enjoy it year after year! And those photos of you & A in the wind are too cute! Happy (late) Mother's Day Courtney!
Good thing you know how to use that gun. It will come in handy when little miss starts dating. 😉 Beautiful photos!
haha, getting mauled…sounds right! I love that tradition and I think you should have it in the contract, you may buy our house but you cannot remove that bush and we will stop by once a year for a picture =) That twinning picture is hilarity!
Yay for shooting improvement too! I haven't been shooting in forever, I would not mind one bit though. We've got a shotgun and a hand gun, might as well make sure I still remember what to do with them!
Hey! Hey! I was a little late getting my post up today, too, but it's finally done. lol! 🙂 Even with wind blown hair, you & Abigail are adorable!
Way to improve with your shooting! It's been a while since Luke & I've shot together, too. We should probably do that sometime in the near future!
You guys are so cute! I used to love watching How I Met Your Mother, but the more I watched it, the more I felt convicted because sometimes it can be really bad, but it's so funny! ugh! I wish tv shows just stayed clean instead of adding all the yucky stuff to it.
O Man! I saw your shooting video in instagram! Amazing! Also, this "Do you wanna take a picture of mah buns?" is the best thing ever!
Awe, what a fun weekend! I have a similar looking picture as you- me holding a gun- and I love how tough stuff I look in it… what the picture doesn't show is the anxiety attack I was in the middle of, the hyperventilating, and tears streaming down my cheeks! haha! The violence of the weapon and the power behind what I could do were kind of freaking me out! So… I need to work on that. 😉 Happy Mother's Day!
What a wonderful gift. Abigail is just the sweetest girl and I love her so much! When I think about loving it makes me sad to think of leaving my yard. I am already planning a bring a bunch of my plants with me because of their sentimental reasons. (Like my moms roses and peonies we transplanted) I'm sure you could do that with your lilac.

I love the lilac bush tradition — so sweet! Just transplant it and take it with you 🙂 The photo of you and Abigail in the wind where you're looking at each other is so sweet– you wouldn't know it was windy in that photo if you hadn't said so. Just a great photo. I love that you know how to shoot. My hubby's been trying to get me to do that forever and well mostly we just can't find the time to get to the range to practice. What a great weekend all together!
Oh my gosh. THAT WIND. So intense. But seriously, that first picture of her blowing bubbles and those sunglasses. I die. Of cuteness! I can't wait for Mason to be able to blow bubbles. Or to wear sunglasses without ripping them off lol. Hope you had the best Mother's Day!
1. HIMYM is hysterical! We started a few years in and I remember watching them back to back on Netflix because we had to see just one more episode. That (and The Office) are the two most quoted TV shows in our house.
2. Can you dig up the bush and bring it with you? I mean, I would totally try…
3. That pic is soooo a keeper!
Your Twinning picture! HAHA! I LOVE IT! That is hysterical, and adorable all in one!! 🙂
