Life Is A Zoo

Sometimes, life feels like a zoo. And sometimes, you literally are a part of one.
On Friday, Jim got to take the day off since he had just spent the entire week in Chicago. My Mom was here visiting and it just so happened that my brother and his wife had this particular Friday off as well, so we all met up together at the Kansas City Zoo for the day and had a great time!
The zoo is about 2.5 hours from our house, but both of our girls are excellent travelers. And though it made for a really long day, we had the best time.

We started out our day with spending 50 cents to make a cool 1 cent :p (which was almost lost at the telescopes by the giraffes…tragedy! drama!)

After this we were off to see the animals! Polar bears, penguins, gorillas, and lions topped the list of Abigail favorites.

The KC Zoo has lots of fun little playgrounds within it so Abigail was able to expend lots and lots of built up sitting in the car energy- on top of walking the entire day! She rocked it.

 The sweetest girls.

…..and my family sitting on fake hippos. (I’m sure they’ll be thrilled I included this photo! lol)

There was a hilarious moment when Abigail rode the carousel the first time with Aunt Clairen- we all thought she had chosen to ride on a tick. Turns out it was a ladybug, but it looked hilarious with her sitting on it. A tiger the second time around was a much more traditional choice. And my brother sitting on a bright pink flamingo beside her was equally fabulous.

We had zero idea what time the zoo closed, so there we were walking all around Africa when a zoo employee offered to take us to the front on a free tram ride. We were like sure! and then after a quick google search we realized the zoo closed at 4….and it was 4:30. oops! We got our money’s worth that day.

After the zoo we enjoyed dinner at The Cheesecake Factory on the Plaza and then we were able to stop in at Grandpa Monty and Grandma Jenny’s house for a quick hello before our 2+ hour drive home. It was a perfect way to end our day! (Oh, and did I mention the weather??? It couldn’t have been better!)

  5. Hi Courtney! I've been reading your blog for about a year now. I just want to say I really love the way you mother and bring Christ into your life and teach your children what matters most. My church had a general conference this past weekend and there was a talk about motherhood and how it relates to Christ and as I was reading your blog post I had the thought that you might enjoy it. In another week or so the text will be available but for now its just the audio or video. Here is a link. Thanks again for being who you are! https://www.lds.org/general-conference/watch/2015/10?lang=eng&vid=4529689466001&cid=5
