Stitch Fix With A Bump: Maternity Stitch Fix Review

It has been a minute since I got a Stitch Fix box! My last one came mid-November, so needless to say, my shape has changed *quite* a bit since then. Thankfully, the lovely stylist Dana came through for me.I love reading Stitch Fix posts, so I hope you guys enjoy them too. They’re a lot of fun to put together and believe it or not, even more fun to shop. So onward and upward to Maternity Stitch Fix Review Box #5! I can’t wait to show you what all I was sent 🙂

Nope. Your eyes aren’t failing you. I just actually took that crappy of a picture. You’re welcome.

I’ve seen this shirt pop up on many a blog over the last few months and I have always loved it. I’ve been dying to try out a dolman style shirt for a while now, so I went ahead and added a few Stitch Fix pins to my style board on Pinterest. I’m SO glad that I did! This top came and I absolutely loved it. It’s a Courtney top through and through on a regular day, but it is also roomy enough that it will work perfectly as a maternity top AND will be great for the awkward postpartum phase that I’ll be walking through this summer/fall.

Big time, super happy about it, keeper!

Rune Porter Maternity Legging

I broke my absolutely, positively, Courtney #1 fashion rule for this Stitch Fix box:

Leggings are NOT pants.

I don’t care how you slice it, to me, it’s a no no.

Leggings under a dress? Love it.

Leggings under a tunic? I’m down.

Leggings with a shirt? Nope nope nope nope nope.

Anyway, let’s take a look at these leggings for what they are. They’re maternity, so they had a soft and stretchy panel. They were thick which is great because things don’t need to be any more stretched than they already are. And, they were long enough for my long legs.

I seriously almost kept them, specifically because none of the leggings at Destination/Pea In A Pod/ Motherhood were long enough on me. Seriously, they were all like capris.

But, I couldn’t justify the price tag on them. They were just too steep for a pair of leggings that I *probably* wouldn’t actually wear all that often, seeing as how I won’t wear them as pants.

Moving on.

I kind of hated this shirt when it came out of the box. For some reason, buttons like these are just not my thing.

I think it’s some sort of weird residual hate that stems from the clothes my mom dressed me in when I was a little girl. I’ve been able to overcome most of my strange clothing aversions as I’ve matured, but buttons aren’t one of them. It’s weird. I know.

Anyway, the blue was a great color, the shirt was soft, it had an adorable hood on the back.

It just had one big problem.:

I can’t stand maternity shirts that have side ruching. Call me crazy but it just screams “Hey, this is a MATERNITY shirt, oh and hey, you’ll never be able to wear this again after your kid comes out.”

The dolman above was a great option to me because it was loose and capable of being a maternity shirt, a postpartum shirt, and just a regular awesome shirt. This shirt is only capable of being maternity and therefore, it was sent back.

Item #4

LA Made Maternity Alysha Cap Sleeve Knit Top

Oh Stitch Fix.

What is this??

Are pregnant ladies hitting up the club and I wasn’t aware of it? (I’m having visions of Katherine Heigl in Knocked Up huge and trying to go clubbing) Am I headed to a night on the town or a bachelorette party or something equally crazy? Because this outfit.

Y’all.

Abigail and I are laughing at the ridiculousness of it. Is it a dress? Is it a shirt? What is happening with this article of clothing? It’s way, way too long to work with jeans. It’s way, way too short to be a dress. And it’s mostly just too tight and vibrant for anyone to want to look at a pregnant lady in.

Haha, no. Bye bye red/pink dress/shirt.

Another almost keeper! I pondered and pondered because I don’t have a black cardigan and really liked this one, but ultimately decided it was too light weight of a fabric to get a *ton* of use out of. And really, it wasn’t unique or original enough for me to justify paying a Stitch Fix price for it. If I really need a black cardigan I’ll go Walmart style. Sent back! What do you think? Which items would you have kept?

  1. this really makes me want to try stitch fix, but i don't think i can stomach paying a $20 fee for potentially hating everything lol. that first top is super cute and i kinda want it for myself – i understand why you didn't keep the leggings because of the price but i think that top was long enough to wear with leggings without them being inappropriate.. or maybe thats just me? and ugh, i totally agree with the side ruching. so not cute – and that red / pink / shirt / dress – wtf.

  2. Hahaha, your face in the dress/top thing. The best. I got that dolman top in my fix yesterday and hated it on me, but it's so cute on you! I probably would have kept the cardigan though – I love lightweight ones.

    You're looking great, mama!

  3. That Dolman top looks awesome on you! It did not work at all for me while being pregnant, but I think it's because I carry so low! Did you see my last fix? I got an awesome maternity dress that I will seriously every day until I give birth. Casual or dressy. Anyways, you should pin it for next time! Also, get yourself a pair of Preggo Leggings. $35 and it will be the only pair of leggings you will need while pregnant!

  4. I love this!! I really need to sign up for this 🙂 Love these items.. I love the leggings and the first look and last look 🙂 I wore leggings my whole time I was pregnant

  5. You are so funny!! I loved the majority of your items. You are right, that red mini dress was odd 🙂 I hate paying big bucks for leggings and rarely spend a ton on cardigans so I'd probably check Target/Wal-Mart for those, too. You look precious in everything so let that bump shine 🙂

  6. You're gorgeous!
I think you're spot on with your reviews of each item. I LOVE the striped dolman top, and I want a non-maternity version ASAP 🙂
I do like the open black cardigan–mine is starting to get holey because I've worn it a lot–but yeah, you definitely could pick one up locally for cheaper.

  7. You know, I like your choices. I actually have never done a "Stitch-Fix" but I read tons of the reviews because they are fun to read. Then I go to Goodwill, buy a bunch of stuff for like $20 that I would never normally wear and that is my stitch fix, ha ha. And I am not out like $200.00 🙂

  8. Ok… this is the third time I've commented and it didn't work the last two… so forgive me if you get multiple (similar) comments from me hahaha!!

You are seriously the cutest pregnant gal ever and I just love your stitch fix reviews! I so wish we could get Stitch Fix in Canada!!

My favourite is the shirt you picked although I personally loved the sweater on you even with the ruching! That red/pink shirt/dress/wtf? glad you sent that one packing 😉

  9. i am seeing SO many expensive "maternity cardigans" all around this year! and seriously??? WHY. whats a maternity cardigan have that cardigans on my closet don't? a few extra dollar signs is about all! they make me chuckle. loving your first outfit though with those leggings and dolman top!

  10. You are too cute! Love the top you chose – that would have been my choice too, for sure:) Loving your Stitch Fix reviews and am trying to decide if it's something I should try! As a random side note: how tall are you? I'm 5'7 and have found that Hue leggings from Nordstrom are perfect for those of us with long legs:) They're around $30 (which is a bit pricier than I normally go for). But they are worth it, and they do go on sale. I am still wearing mine at 25 weeks pregnant and they are non-maternity. Winning!

  11. Whoa that red dress thing is TERRIBLE! I do like the cardi but don't blame you one bit for not wanting to pay a lot for a thin piece. Also the leggings, the struggle is real friend! Old Navy's work out compression pants work GREAT for black leggings and they are a decent thickness too. I know compression is not a welcome feeling right now, but maybe in a few months it will be. Plus if you order online you can get talls!

  12. I just posted my most recent SF today, too! Cute items and an even cuter bump! Call me crazy for a couple of reasons: 1) I like the red top. And 2) I wear my maternity side-rouching tank tops under things (NON-PREGNANT) all. the. time. I don't care what anyone says, they are long and comfy and I love the layered look they offer! No shame here! 🙂

  13. I love your face in that red top!! Too funny!! I got a Pregnancy "Fix" and sent everything back but a top (that I haven't worn yet) and a scarf. I do love their pieces, but some of their prices are a little nuts-o. I am the total opposite of you – I love the rouching on shirts!! I love the top you kept, but I totally get sending most pieces back – especially maternity pieces that you will never wear again.

  14. I know I commented on a previous post of yours because I saw the Stitch Fix box but they are the worst when it comes to maternity wear! SO expensive and most was not flattering (on me anyway!). Everything was so tight. I would never wear something so tight pre-pregancy!

Anyway, rant over! I love the sweater you kept. I received it in red and get a lot of use out of it! 🙂

  15. LOVE the shirt you kept! I love the style of the dolman top but am always so worried it looks weird on me. It looks great on you though! And even though I'm totally with you on the fact that leggings are NOT pants, I think you look super cute in the shirt, leggings and your boots!

  16. So funny, the photo with you looking horrified at the side ruches cracked me up!

I really like the striped top, nice cut and great length. The cardigan has a cute shape, but it should have been much thicker. I just love that they have a Maternity version, how brilliant!
